Building a Website - Enterprise Java Content management system - Hippo CMS

This article covers a Hippo CMS version 7.9. There's an updated version available that covers our most recent release.

Building a Website

Introduction

This trail will guide you through the development of GoGreen, a Hippo-based web site on environmental friendliness. Using an agile approach, you will complete several development sprints. In each sprint you will deliver a working site and increase your Hippo knowledge level at the same time. At the end of the trail, you will have a good idea of the development tasks involved in the implementation of a Hippo-based web site.

Scope

The scope of this trail is restricted to the development of features in a Hippo-based web site. In the real world the process of delivering such features involves more than just development and includes among others: collaboration, version control, quality control, release management and deployment strategies. Those aspects are outside the scope of this trail.

Prerequisites

Before you start this trail, you must:

Experience with Java development is not required for sprint 1 and  sprint 2 . For sprint 3 it is technically required but it's also a great opportunity to learn by practice!

Using an IDE like Eclipse or IntelliJ is highly recommended.

Sprint Planning

Using an agile approach, the project will be completed and your knowledge increased in three consecutive sprints:

  1. Configure Out-of-the-Box Features
  2. Develop New Features
  3. Develop Advanced Features
The introduction pages for sprints 2 and 3 contain links to download the full deliverable of the previous sprint so more experienced developers can start the trail at a point that fits their experience level. We do recommend you follow the entire trail if you are new to Hippo.
