Authors Tour

A CMS author writes documents and can upload images and other binaries (this is why they are sometimes called 'contributors'). To get introduced to the role of CMS author, take the following tour.

To get introduced to the role of CMS author, you will look over the shoulder of Marc, who is a member of the imaginary organization Swatia, an organization of people very interested in music, art and knowledge. We did not imagine an answer to the question whether Swatia is a commercial organization, a hobby organization, or both.

Swatia decided to publish an online newspaper about music, art and knowledge.

Marc will add an article about an upcoming multicultural Bazaar.

1Browser Marc opens the Hippo CMS site of Swatia. He needed to know the site's web address and he got it from the CMS administrator, who got it from the system administrator who installed the Hippo CMS at Swatia.
2Login CMS
Marc received a username and password from his CMS administrator, to login to the CMS, i.e. to get access to the CMS.
To login to the CMS, Marc types his username and password in the appropriate inputfields. His password is supposed to be only known to him, so you do not get to see it.
3Change password
The CMS administrator told Marc that the password he gave him is not unique and that Marc should change it to a word nobody else knows. So Marc Changes his password.
4Goto workspace
Because Marc wants to work on content, he goes to the content workspace.
5Goto Folder Marc learned that all articles for Swatia's online newspaper are supposed to go in the 'newspaper' document folder, so he goes to that folder to add his new document in.
6Create document
For the article about the upcoming multicultural bazaar, Marc creates a document named 'multibazar2009'. He gives it the document type 'upcoming', because that is in Swatia the document type for upcoming happenings, like the bazaar.
7fill date Marc sees that he is supposed to specify on what date the happening, which in his case is the bazaar, will be. So he looks up the date and specifies it in the document.
8fill string Marc sees that he is supposed to type a title for the happening, which in his case is the bazaar, and he types 'Multicultural Bazaar 2009' as the title.
9fill boolean Marc sees that he is supposed to answer the question whether the happening is indoors. Marc knows that the bazaar is not indoors and he adds that information in the document. He also is supposed to answer the question whether the happening is a recurring happening, i.e. a happening that has occurred before. This is the case, so Marc also adds that information to the document.
10fill markuped text Marc sees that he can also write a description of the happening and he writes an informative text about the upcoming multicultural bazaar. He includes the place where the bazaar will be in this description, because there is no separate field for it and people need to know.
11save document Marc finished his article about the upcoming multicultural bazaar, so he saves the document.
12request publication Marc now requests publication of his article. Janine is the editor and she will receive this request and accept or reject it.
13schedule publication As part of requesting publication of his article, Marc schedules when he thinks his article should be published.
14Logout Marc quits for today.
15Login CMSOn some other day, Mark logs in again.
16Referring documents Marc wants to know which documents refer to the panflute document.
