Hippo CMS allows to define which role(s) a user may perform. In day to day usage, authors write and add content. Editors decide about publishing the content. The authors write documents that are of a certain document type. The document type specifies which fields the document consists of. The document types are composed by information architects. All users, authors, editors and information architects have to get an account from a CMS administrator. Unlike the other users, CMS administrators have no part in the content of the CMS, they only assign permissions.
The list below gives a high-level overview on the roles. For more detailed information about a role click on the role below or in the left side menu.
Note that in reality the information architect and developer are often one and the same person. So we did not include architect as an out-of-the-box role within Hippo CMS. The autor, editor and admin roles are predefined and can be customized to your own needs.
