If you do not have Tomcat installed, there may be another servlet container or application server installed on your system, which you can use for Hippo CMS, see here. If you decide you want Tomcat, continue.

Download Tomcat 6.0 from the Apache Tomcat website. | |
| 2 | Unzip | Unpack the zip. In the rest of this todo list, the acquired tomcat folder will be called $TOMCATDIR. It has a name like apache-tomcat-6.0.18. | |
| 3 | Startup |
Start Tomcat with one of the startup scripts in $TOMCATDIR/bin,
.sh for Linux and .bat for MS.

Users can now open the local Tomcat site http://localhost:8080 in
their browsers.

| 5 | Quit |
Quit Tomcat with one of the shutdown scripts in $TOMCATDIR/bin.
