System Requirements

What do you need to run Hippo CMS 7.7?

1Web Browser

Hippo CMS and website both run in a web browser. From version 7.6 Hippo CMS works with all major browsers and latest versions. From Hippo CMS 7.7 we no longer support Firefox 3.6 and Internet Explorer 7 anymore.

The CMS requires cookies to be turned on in the browser.

The website does not have specific browser requirements. The HST2 can work with all browsers. The supported browsers depend on the website implementation. 

2Client OS

The Hippo R&D team tests Hippo CMS on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux.

If you need guaranteed support for a specific client OS (for example, in a virtualized environment), contact Hippo Support and ask for Certified Stack support, which is part of the Hippo Support License.

3Client Hardware
As a minimum configuration, Hippo CMS requires:
  • Intel Pentium 4
  • 512 MB Memory
  • 1024x768 screen resolution
4Server OS

Hippo CMS is a Java based server application. It runs on most operating systems that run Java. We generally test on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Ubuntu Linux. If you need guaranteed support for a specific server OS (Red Hat, Suse, IBM, HP, Sun or other operating system), contact Hippo Support and ask for Certified Stack support, which is part of the Hippo Support License.

5Server Hardware
  • Intel Pentium 4, 2.0 Ghz or higher (Dual 2.0 GHz recommended)
  • 2GB of RAM (4.0 Gb recommended)
  • 300 MB of available hard-disk space for system storage
  • 2 Gb of available hard-disk space for data storage (5 Gb or more recommended)
Actual requirements for a specific project may differ.
6Java

 Java Virtual Machine, JVM 6.  (JVM 7 is not yet supported)

If you need guaranteed support for a specific version of Java or different vendor (e.g. IBM), contact Hippo Support and ask for Certified Stack support, which is part of the Hippo Support License.

7Servlet container

Hippo CMS works in Java Servlet containers or Java application servers that conform to version 2.5 of the Servlet specification. For development and production we recommend to use latest Tomcat 6 (at least 6.0.27). 

Get Hippo Certified Stack support if you need to use the following containers:

  • IBM Websphere
  • JBoss
  • Oracle Weblogic
  • Oracle GlassFish

 

If you're running Hippo CMS in a production environment (either clustered or not), it might be useful to get some Systems Support from Hippo. These guys know how to tune Hippo CMS to the max like no other :)

8Database
Hippo CMS uses a relational database for it's datastorage, e.g.:
Derby logo Apache Derby > 10.0 is embedded and configured as default and runs "out of the box", but not intended for production environments.
MySQL 5.0 and 5.1. We recommend the latest 5.1.x release. MySQL is intended for production environments.
